2020 Challenges in the Clinton County Area

If you enjoy challenges in the outdoors, Clinton County is the place to be. The area has become a mecca for trail runs that pit participants not so much against each other but against challenging terrain! More casual hikes are also available, as are bicycling events, mud runs, triathlons, sport motorcycling, powerboat racing, golf tournaments, and more. The following is a sampling of the types of events offered!

February 15 - The Frozen Snot Trail Challenge

U.S. Army Reserve Center, McElhattan. 7:30 am.

A trail race on Bald Eagle Mountain that combines both a long course of 13.5 miles of the toughest terrain in central Pennsylvania with the worst of winter weather.

March 7 - Lily’s Run

Bald Eagle State Park, 149 Main Park Road, Howard, 12 pm.

The 6th annual memorial 3.59 mile race, walk and kids fun run. $25. Proceeds benefit the Trisomy 18 Foundation, Clinton County Special Olympics, and a family in our community with a child needing medical attention.

March 28 - Bald Eagle Valley Trail Fest 5K & Baking Contest **POSTPONED NEW DATE PENDING**

Start/finish at the Castanea Fire Hall, 111 McElhattan Ave., Castanea. 10am start (9am registration). The inaugural race on the area’s new Bald Eagle Valley Trail. A fun and family friendly walk or run on this easy, mostly flat trail. Participants to receive native plant seeds to toss along designated sections of the trail. In addition, bakers can compete in a carrot cake/cupcake contest! The Fest is a fundraiser for Clinton County CleanScapes, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2020.

April 11 - Eaglton Trail Challenge (10K; 25K & 50K) **CANCELLED**

8am. A trek through the scenic, historic Eagleton Mine Camp Trail in Sproul State Forest on one of three very runnable 10K, 25K or 50K trails.

May 2 - Mountain of Hope Trail Challenge (5K & Half Marathon)

455 South Ridge Lane, Mill Hall. 5K starts at 9am; Half-marathon at 9:30am. After some time off, this amazing race is back! The courses traverse private land in the East End Valley. Proceeds benefit Sharing Hope Ministries disaster relief efforts.

May 23 & 24 - Potter County Memorial Weeklend ATV  Run

Potter County Family Campground, 3075 East 2nd St, Coudersport. Departing each morning at 9am. Ride one day or both, as Central Mountains ATV Association hosts this holiday weekend guided ride along township roads (diver's license required). Rated easy. For CMATVA members (new members welcome).

May 30 & 31 - Durty Dabbers Great Adventure Dual Sport

Castanea Picnic Grounds, 859 Lower Creek Rd., Lock Haven. Saturday 11am; Sunday 9 am. '1000 miles of bad road' and some of the best scenic views as you ride through the mountains of central PA. For street legal bikes and motorcycle licensed riders only. Sponsored by the Durty Dabbers Motorcycle Club.

June 13 - Renovo ATV Cruise for a Cure

Flaming Foliage Lot, Huron Ave., Renovo. 6am breakfast; 7am check-in with the firt group departing at 9am (remaining groups departing every 15 minutes. The Bucktail Medical Center Relay for Life team and Central Mountains ATV association team up for an easy, 50-mile guided ATV leaving Renovo and proceeding to the Whiskey Springss ATV trail and traveling along routes not normally open to ATVs. There will be stops at scenic overlooks and you'll travel over trails, roads and power lines. There's a lunch stop at Quiet Oaks Campground in Cross Fork and a meal afterwards. The 10th annual cruise benefits the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life campaign and honors cancer survivors and those who have lost their battles.

June 20 - Little Loggers Trails Fest

Western Clinton County Sportsmen's Association Nature Center, 20 Sportsmen's Lane, Hyner. 10 am.  A free, kids-only race, geared toward getting kids 12 & under outdoors and giving them opportunities to trail the sport of trail running. The 2.75-mile course include a few hills for the kids to challenge themselves. Stay for a whole host of family festivities afterwards!Sponsored by the PA Trail Dogs.

July 18 - Sproul 10K

Western Clinton County Sportsmen's Association Nature Center, 20 Sportsmen's Lane, Hyner. 10 am.  A challenge race through the mountains of Sproul State Forest. It's 3 miles uphill to the top of McCloskey Mountain, then a blistering 3.7 miles down to the finish. Expect vistas, stream crossings, and technical single track. One of the most challenging 10Ks in PA! Sponsored by the PA Trail Dogs and part of the Rocksylvania Trail Series of races.

July 25 & 26 - Rattlesnake National Enduro

August 29 - Hyner View Trail Challenge (25K & 50K) 

8am. A nationally recognized trail event through mountain trails in Sproul State Forest, this is Clinton County's largest trail event. The 25K is open to the first 1,000 runners, while the 50K is open to the first 400 runners. Always a sellout! Sponsored by the PA Trail Dogs and part of the Rockylvania Trail Series of races.

September 12 - Whiskey Springs ATV Benefit Poker Run

Whiskey Springs ATV Trail, middle parking lot, Westport. 9am. Enjoy a day of riding along the Whiskey Springs ATV Trail. The ride traverses old woods
roads, gravel roads, forest trails, and a moonscape of unvegitated strip-mines in one of DCNR’s premier ATV trail systems. Several stops for the poker
run spread around the park with a chance to win a cash prize at each stop. $20 donation. Sponsored by the Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park
Association and the Central Mountains ATV Association. Proceeds benefit the Heritage Park Association.

September 19 - Boulder Beast Trail Challenge

October 24 & 25 - Durty Dabbers Vintage & Modern Mototrials 

274 Reservoir Rd., McElhattan.  A sanctioned Mid-Atlantic Vintage Trials event Saturday at noon, followed by a kid’s fun event. The modern trials
