7:30pm nightly performances; 2pm matinees Wednesday and Sundays; and a special, Juneteenth performance at 7:30m on Monday, June 19. Based on the real-life story of Alonzo Fields, the grandson of a freed slave who grew up in an all-black town in southern Indiana. Fields is forced by the Depression to give up his dreams of becoming an opera singer and accept a job at the White House where he quickly was appointed Chief Butler. Set on the eve of his last day on the job, Fields reflects, with humor and pride, on his 21 years of service to his country over four presidencies. Special Notes: A free Community Gathering is held 5:30-7:30pm in the Playhouse Courtyard on opening night, June 9. A new signature cocktail is launched, along with the debut of a local artist’s work, and a 7pm ribbon cutting to open the show. On June 19, a free, special pre-show Juneteenth celebration is held from 5:30-7:30pm in the Courtyard to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Rated PG.
