Scenic Byway Route 144-Runs north-south. From Renovo SR 144 south is a state scenic byway and is also known as part of the Elk Scenic Drive. There are two improved overlooks along the southern route.

Red Hill - Fish Fossil Site
S.R. 120, North Bend
Rare, 350-million-year-old fossils occur in the "Red Hill" rock exposure near Renovo, PA. Among the Devonian-age animal and plant remains in this red-hued mountainside exposure, scientists discovered the bones of fish-like tetrapods, early ancestors of amphibians. These "fishes with legs" represent the oldest four-footed animals found thus far in North America.

Elk Viewing
During the 1800’s Pennsylvania’s native elk population had been reduced to a small population mainly located in the north central mountains. Then by 1867, the last native elk was killed. Starting in 1913 the Game Commission began to restore elk in Pennsylvania so that today there are more than 600 – the largest herd in northeastern United States.
Most times of the year are good to catch sight of these beautiful, massive animals in the wilds, but the best times of the day are early morning and late in the day, just before dark.
Logan Mills Covered Bridge
Originally build in 1874, refurbished in 2003. Length is 63' and used a Queen Post Truss. Bridge crosses Fishing Creek about 5 miles west of Loganton. From the SR 477 intersection turn right and follow SR 880 about 5 miles to Logan Mills Road and turn left. The bridge is about half a mile from the turn and is next to a stone grist mill.
Farrandsville Iron Furnace

Located 5.2 miles north of Lock Haven, the Farrandsville Iron Furnace was completed in 1837 and was the first and largest coke-fired hot-blast iron furnace in North America, reaching a height of 54 feet. An excellent example of dry masonry construction it produced 50 tons of high quality pig iron per week using equipment imported from Scotland. The first firebrick made in Pennsylvania was produced at Farrandsville.
West Branch Susquehanna River
Clinton County is fortunate to have more than 65 miles of the 240 mile West Branch Susquehanna River that flows through it. Canoes and kayaks have access points located in Keating, Renovo, North Bend, Hyner, Lock Haven (Woodward Twp.), and Pine.
Spring and early summer offer the best time for ‘Paddling the Wilds’ in Clinton County. Typically water levels drop as we mover closer to summer. The Tidlow Dam located at Lock Haven provides a water pool deep enough to operate outboard power boats throughout the summer. Many reaches of the West Branch Susquehanna are remote and are flanked by steep mountains that will add excitement to your river paddling experience.

Cedar Springs Trout Hatchery

Cedar Springs Trout Hatchery is not located in the beautiful Nittany Valley of central Pennsylvania by chance. The state's largest springs occur on the central and southeastern parts of the Commonwealth where Cambrian and Ordovician limestones outtcrop. Several of these springs provide the hatchery with an abundant supply of quality water. The sixty-five ponds at the hatchery are at four separate locations within a 5-mile area. All the ponds and the hatch house are fed by gravity flow.
Rails-to-Trails
Considered by USA Today as one of the top 10 great hiking trails in 2001. During the 1800’s a rail line was constructed to transport timber from the vast forests that surround the Pine Creek Valley. By 1988, the rail line was closed, but today the 60 mile trail is open for hiking and biking from the Pine Creek Gorge ‘Pennsylvania’s Grand Canyon’ to Jersey Shore. Directions: From Lock Haven take either SR 220 or SR 150 north about 10 miles to the Pine Creek exit, SR 44, and go north- watch for signed parking access.
Bucktail State Park
Bucktail State Park provides a beautiful 75-mile scenic drive along PA 120 from Lock Haven, through Renovo, to Emporium. It stretches through a narrow valley, which has for years been called the Bucktail Trail. This beautiful area has also been called the Bucktail Canyon because of the steep mountains that form beautiful forested walls along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River and Sinnemahoning Creek. Hyner Run State Park
The stream Hyner Run carves a small valley from the surrounding steep mountains, creating a cozy, quiet place for a family adventure. The park was originally developed as a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp. Opened to the public in 1958 with the completion of the swimming pool, bathhouse, concession, picnic area and restrooms. A camping area was later added to the park and was opened to the public in 1975. The large swimming pool is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, unless otherwise posted. The hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. There is also a 15 feet by 15 feet wading pool.
The picnic area contains 150 picnic tables with the majority of tables in full to partial shade. A limited number of grills are also available. Two picnic pavilions, 24 feet by 36 feet, may be reserved. Thirty camp-sites and a cabin are available. (570) 923-6000
Hyner View State Park
This 40-acre state plot is best known for its beautiful lookout over the Susquehanna River, which is especially popular during the fall. Hyner View is also well known for its hang gliding opportunities. A picnic area is available, and hunting is permitted. A five mile snowmobiling trail is maintained at this facility. (570) 923-6000
Ravensburg State Park
This 78-acre park offers 21 modern tenting sites, and picnicking and playground areas are accessible. Fishing is permitted in the park's creek, and a hiking trail is available. (570) 966-1455
Kettle Creek State Park
The second largest state park in Clinton County, 1,793 acres, has picnicking areas, a beach swimming area, a playground facility, and 71 camping sites. The 167 acres of water at Kettle Creek offer opportunities galore for fishing and boating. Back-packers can hike a two-mile stretch, and a five-mile horse trail is also accessible. Sproul State Forest contains some of most rugged and remote forestland in Pennsylvania. It is also home to two lengthy and beautiful hiking trails, the Chuck Keiper Trail (50 mile double loop) and the Donut Hole Trail (52 miles that connects with the Susquehannock Trail). Scenic Byway Route 120-Runs east-west. From Lock Haven in the east, this state byway runs along the West Branch Susquehanna River (through the Bucktail Trail State Park Natural Area), passes through Hyner, North Bend, and Renovo. From Renovo west the road is also know as part of the Elk Scenic Drive. SR 120 also follows the Sinnemahoning Creek to the county line then continues to Emporium and on the Ridgway.

Enjoy yourself on our ATV Trail System. It has been designed to provide you with a number of different riding experiences. You will find yourself traveling through the "moonscape" of unvegetated strip mines, stripped areas that have been revegetated, old wood roads, improved gravel roads, and forest trails. Several vistas have been constructed to help you enjoy the scenery in this area. Be observant and you may see some of the many species of animals that roam through the area. You will have the opportunity to see many wildflowers including acres of mountain laurel which bloom in June.
Clyde Peelings Reptileland
Reptiland is a specialized zoo that introduces visitors to the less-loved members of the animal kingdom in a safe, entertaining format. Explore the world of mambas, cobras, vipers, pythons and other rare and beautiful snakes. Giant alligators, gentle tortoises, curious lizards and colorful frogs also await discovery on this zoological adventure. An exciting multi-media show reveals the close-up world of reptiles on the big screen and live lecture demonstrations offer guests the chance to touch harmless specimens and speak with friendly experts. Shows begin at 10:30, noon, 1:30, 3:00 and 4:30. They usually last 35 to 45 minutes. Located about 45 minutes from Lock Haven - Take route 220 north toward Williamsport then route 15 south to Allenwood.
Smoked County Jam Bluegrass Festival
Bluegrass music at its best. Every June music fans meet in a country setting to enjoy a weekend with some of the best regional bluegrass bands. Live music on stage, jam sessions at the camp fire, workshops, kids programs, great food, and part of proceeds will help the PA Lupus Foundations.
Tylersville State Fish Hatchery
The Tylersville Fish Culture Station (hatchery) was originally constructed in 1963 by the United States Department of Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). The hatchery is located on approximately 80 developed acres (125 total acres) with 5,000 feet of concrete linear raceways. The water supply is a spring pool with 8 spring sources and infiltration of subsurface flow that originates from Big Fishing Creek.
